In his composing house, a simple wooden hut, he created some of his most famous works: the ninth and tenth symphonies and the “Song of the Earth”. Here in Dobbiaco the oldest Way of the Cross in all of Tyrol awaits you, known as the “Monte Calvario”. This fascinating path starts at the south exit of the cemetery and leads you directly to the breathtaking round chapel in Lerschach, which was consecrated in 1568. And along the way, you can allow yourself to be swept away by the impressive passion scenes in the five passion chapels along Maximilianstraße. These masterpieces commissioned by the brothers Christoph and Kaspar Herbst were built in 1519.

From Ehrenberg you can enjoy an impressive view of Dobbiaco and the majestic Dolomites at the beginning of the hike. The trail itself is pleasantly easy and leads through picturesque forest areas. The Lachwiesen hut, located at 1,690 m above sea level, is easily accessible on foot or by car. There you will not only find a whole host of delicacies, but also a playground and a petting zoo with donkeys, goats and rabbits. Starting from the hotel, the hiking trail with the number 1A leads you directly to the Lachwiesenhütte mountain hut.

The Austrian composer was one of the most famous conductors of his time. In the prime of his life he maintained a close connection with Dobbiaco. It was not only a creative retreat, but also served as a source of inspiration. The tranquillity of the mountain giants, the serenity and the peaceful atmosphere of the landscape breathed life into his compositions. In his composing house, a simple wooden hut, he created some of his most famous works: the ninth and tenth symphonies and the “Song of the Earth”. Along the themed trail you can delve deeper into his life and work and you can even pay a visit to the former composing house.

A nature trail with no fewer than eleven stations takes you around the lake, where you can find out lots of information about flora, fauna and the surrounding area.
